🇨🇦 Toronto French Cuisine|Second Visit to Michelin-Starred Alo
This was my second time dining at Alo. Honestly, my first experience was just okay—especially their desserts, which were way too sweet for my taste. But recently, friends kept raving about their new dishes, so I decided to give it another shot. And this time… the desserts were still sweet (though slightly better). Maybe that’s just how French desserts are? That said, the service and ambiance remained impeccable, making for a lovely evening overall. 🥇 Foie Gras / Madai / A5 Wagyu This appetizer platter featured an A5 Wagyu tartare that absolutely stole the show. Crispy tart shell, finely diced Wagyu (with gorgeous marbling), topped with caviar for a salty umami punch. The texture? Buttery smooth without being heavy. One bite and my eyes literally sparkled—that good. ✨ 🐟 Tasting of Tuna (Akami / Chutoro / Otoro) The dish I was most excited for! Three cuts of tuna, graded by fat content: lean Akami, medium Chutoro, and melt-in-your-mouth Otoro. The progression of richness was chef’s kiss, and the bonus uni (sea urchin) bite? Heavenly. My favorite of the night! 🦞 Lobster A warm, comforting dish with Japanese influences—think elevated ochazuke. Perfectly cooked lobster over Koshihikari rice, drizzled with bonito broth, and topped with shiitake and nori. The broth was deeply flavorful but light, like a hug in a bowl. 🧡 La Canardière Foie Gras An extra order, because why not? The foie gras was seared well, but the sweet glaze + crushed nuts made it very rich. After a few bites, it felt heavy—best shared unless you’re a hardcore foie fan. 🐑 New Zealand Lamb Since I’d tried their A5 Wagyu before, I opted for the new seasonal lamb. The server mentioned it was its first day on the menu—and wow, zero gaminess, cooked perfectly medium-rare. Paired with yogurt sauce and fava bean purée, it was surprisingly refreshing. Skipping the Wagyu? No regrets. Final Thoughts: A much better experience than my first visit! The starters were stellar, desserts still leaned sweet (but improved), and service was flawless. If it’s your first time at Alo, this seasonal menu is a solid pick. #TorontoFineDining #MichelinToronto #FrenchCuisine #TorontoFoodie #LuxuryDining #DateNightToronto #FoodieReview #TorontoRestaurants #UpscaleEats #GourmetExperience #TastingMenu #WinePairing #ChefLife
