🇨🇦 Two Japanese Brunch Spots - One Hit, One Miss...

📍 Ohiru Cafe Recommended by a CBC friend! I was skeptical at first - char siu eggs Benedict sounded questionable, and I normally dislike fried foods (that pork cutlet looked dry AF). BUT! I'm eating my words because it was DELICIOUS [sob emoji]. The sweet-savory char siu benny was unexpectedly perfect - not greasy at all! The chicken katsu was juicy and tender (shocking for fried chicken!). The fluffy bread slices were great too 😋 Special shoutout to their fries - some of the best I've had! 💰 $24/person before tip (2 dishes for 2 people = perfectly filling) ⏰ Heads up: Tiny space! Went Sunday at 2pm - staff said 10min wait but actually took 20min. Closes at 3pm! 📍 Ohiru Cafe Their soufflé pancakes get mixed reviews online. We ordered the $19 eggs benny (with soufflé base) thinking we'd get both... but the "soufflé" was dense and cakey. That said - the combo with eggs was surprisingly tasty! (Only highlight though) The side fries were meh. $23 chicken & waffles was SO disappointing after seeing rave reviews online. Waffles = soggy, chicken = flavorless (had to drown it in syrup). Only redeeming parts: strawberry butter and decent syrup. Portions tiny compared to first spot. #TorontoBrunch #JapaneseBrunch #TorontoEats #FoodReview #BrunchLover #TorontoFoodie #HiddenGem #Overrated #HonestReview #TorontoCafe #EggsBenedict #FoodCritic #MustTry #SkipThis
