đšđŠ Waterloo Sichuan Cuisine: Kam Yin (Third Visit)
Hey everyone! I accidentally âdisappearedâ for a while recentlyâhope you understand! With graduation around the corner, thereâs just so much going on. But donât worry, Iâll never stop updating, even after I graduate. (Iâll even start an Instagram account for photography and another for Western food!) Todayâs star is one of Waterlooâs better Chinese restaurants: Kam Yin. You might know them from takeout, but trust meâdine in is the way to go. Their food just doesnât hold up well to delivery. The in-store experience is great, especially their pig intestines. Let me introduce my top picks: Spicy Green Pepper Pig Intestines (17.84 CAD) đ¶ïž SautĂ©ed pig intestines with spicy horn peppersâclassic and delicious! The mild spiciness and fresh aroma of the green peppers cut through the richness of the intestines perfectly. The intestines are fresh too, with a savory-spicy kick thatâs spot on. Large Pot Boiled Beef (24.64 CAD) đ„© Classic sliced beef in a classic sauce packet, haha! It tastes good but isnât particularly uniqueâyouâve probably had similar flavors before. But the portion is generous, and it pairs great with rice. Xiang-Style SautĂ©ed Beef (19.54 CAD) đł Not the most authentic Xiang-style, but still tasty! The beef slices are tender and easy to chew, and the savory-spicy flavor (plus celery) makes it super rice-friendly. Spicy Stir-Fried Pig Intestines (16.99 CAD) đ„ Similar in flavor and ingredients to the green pepper version, but the intestines are slightly stir-fried to make the skin crispier. Theyâre also cut into smaller pieces from the âyummy! Sichuan Pepper SautĂ©ed Beef (17.84 CAD) đ¶ïžđż Nice numbing-spicy flavor with a fresh, savory kick. The beef is stir-fried with green pepper strips, celery, and carrot slices (their veggie choices are pretty consistent!). Super satisfying with rice. Braised Egg Tofu (13.59 CAD) đ„ Silky egg tofu is coated in starch, fried, then stir-friedâtexturally rich with a slight crunch and softness. The savory flavor is a winner. Scallion Lamb Stir-Fry (19.54 CAD) đ Lamb slices stir-fried with spicy onion aroma. The lamb flavor isnât too strong (typical for this style), but itâs still tasty. Dry Pot Crispy Pig Intestines (16.99 CAD) đ§ Stir-fried with dried red peppers, these intestines are crispier than the other two versions. The spice is mild, with a nice dried chili aromaâsavory, spicy, and delicious. Iâm obsessed with their pig intestines here, and the braised egg tofu is a close second. Their stir-fried pork is good too! Overall, itâs one of the better Chinese spots in Waterloo. Just remember: dine in, donât takeout!
