🇩🇪 A 20+ Year Old Cantonese Gem in Berlin 🥢

Some restaurants aren't about wowing you—they're about making you feel at home. China Pfanne - Xin Hui City is a tiny spot in Berlin (so small it barely fits 10 people! 🏠), but it's one of my absolute favorite Cantonese places in the city. ❤️ The first time I went, it was for rice noodle rolls (cheung fun)—something Berlin’s other Cantonese spots just don’t do right. 🍜 I ordered almost everything on the menu, and the owner kindly warned me, "This will take a while, take a seat!" ⏳ While waiting, my inner extrovert kicked in, and I ended up chatting with the lovely uncle and auntie running the place. 🗣️💬 Turns out, this humble restaurant has been around for over 20 years, originally opened by immigrants from Xinhui, Guangdong, 40+ years ago! When my food finally arrived, one bite sent me straight back to my childhood. 🧒🏼✨ Back then, dim sum wasn’t ordered from a menu—it was served from rolling carts stacked with steaming baskets. 🥟🚂 That first taste of silky, tender cheung fun transported me to mornings when I’d grab breakfast at a street stall before school. 🏫💨 Now, I bring all my Cantonese friends here—not for anything fancy, but to let their taste buds revisit home. 🏡👅 Here are my must-order dishes: 1. Steamed Fish 🐟 This is my go-to comfort dish—flaky, tender, zero fishy taste, cooked to absolute perfection. 🎯 The best part? Almost no bones! 🚫🦴 It’s a simple dish done exceptionally well, proving that real skill lies in the details. 👨‍🍳💫 2. Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce 🍖 What makes this dish next-level? Xinhui dried tangerine peel (chenpi)—a signature ingredient that adds a fragrant, citrusy depth to the salty-savory black bean sauce. 🍊✨ The fat from the ribs balances beautifully with the peel, creating a harmony of flavors that’s pure Cantonese mastery. 🎶 3. Rice Noodle Rolls (Cheung Fun) 🍜 That sauce… ICONIC. 🏆 Sweet, umami-rich, and nothing like the artificial stuff—it’s the exact flavor of my childhood street breakfasts. 👶 One bite, and I’m 10 years old again. 4. Red Bean Cake & Water Chestnut Cake 🍮 Not too sweet, with a refreshing crunch—the perfect way to end a meal. 🌰❤️ Finding traditional handmade desserts like this abroad is a rare treat. 🎁 Every visit, the owners still ask, "Did you enjoy it? Was it good?" 🥹 It’s these little moments that make the place so heartwarming. 💖 If you’re craving authentic, old-school Cantonese flavors, give these dishes a try! FYI: The place is super small—best for 1-2 people (or takeout, though it’s slow since it’s just the uncle and auntie cooking!). 🐌⏳ Manage expectations—it’s homestyle comfort food, not fine dining. But that’s exactly why I love it. 😊 #FoodieLife #BerlinEats #CantoneseFood #NostalgicFlavors #EatLikeALocal
