🇩🇪 Bremen | Mei Chu Chinese Restaurant
The most popular Chinese restaurant in Bremen — you’ll need a reservation to get a table! 🏮🍚 🥘 Golden Soup with Cured Meat & Tofu We originally wanted to try the tomato and fatty beef with frozen tofu below it, but the owner said that one’s more for German customers. She recommended this instead. The broth tasted like a simpler version of Hong Kong-style fish maw chicken soup, with some Chinese sausage in it. A bit too salty — had to drink a lot of water 🥲. Would’ve been a total favourite otherwise! 🦑 Stir-Fried Squid in Spicy Bean Sauce No photo on the menu, and the German description just said “Sojabohnenpaste”… Turns out it was made with Pixian doubanjiang (spicy fermented bean paste), not the sweet or savory soy-based sauce I expected. Big regional differences in “jiang bao” style! Also quite salty, though the spice level was okay. 🌶️ 🥬 Stir-Fried Celery with Dried Tofu Really delicious! Fresh crisp celery, slightly chewy tofu, light seasoning — perfect for health-conscious eaters 💚. No heavy MSG taste. 🍖 Their signature dishes seem to be: Sweet and sour pork (Guo Bao Rou) Sweet and sour perch (Song Shu Yu) Garlic/pepper salt ribs Spicy chicken …all heavy, fried classics. Sadly not my type, but might be yours if you’re into that! #GermanFood #Bremen#ChineseCuisine #FoodReview #MeiChu
