Bremen | Unassuming Indonesian Flavored Braised Pork

One day at the gym, I was suddenly starving. While on the elliptical machine, I checked Google Maps to find something delicious around me and stumbled upon an Indonesian restaurant caught my eye with their Nasi Goreng set. The tofu set for 2-3 people was 25 euros, and the meat set was 30 euros. Upon closer inspection, I even spotted something that looked like braised pork in brown sauce, so I got off the elliptical and followed the navigation straight to the restaurant. 🏃‍♂️ The restaurant is quite hidden, located in a sunken semi-basement by the roadside. If it weren't for the navigation, it would be really hard to discover this gem of a restaurant. The place isn't large, with a total of nine tables. The owner is busy in the front, and it seems like there are few chefs in the back, so service can be a bit slow due to the limited staff. 🕰️ 【Nasi Medan】When I saw the menu, I was amazed. Braised pork for just 8.5 euros, even if it's only a single portion, is quite a deal. The braised pork arrived looking quite the part, with a glossy color that made it very appetizing, and the portion size was not small either. 🍖 The pork belly wasn't uniformly marbled in every piece, but the overall fat-to-lean ratio in the dish was quite appropriate. The seasoning was a savory-sweet mix; it might seem a bit heavy when eaten plain, but it was just right for pairing with rice. The long-grain rice was spread out on the plate, loose and not very filling, so half the plate was gone in a few big mouthfuls. If you need more, you can order an extra portion of rice for 1.5 euros. 🍚 Next to the rice, there was a small side of pickled cabbage and carrot salad, which tasted just like the coleslaw from KFC here, perfect for cutting through the richness. Sometimes when the restaurant is busy and the customers are packed in, the owner will sing for everyone while they wait for their meal. The owner's level sounds like he's practiced; whether it's English pop songs or Indonesian folk songs, they all sound great. It's like a mini concert in a small room, and even though it's only for the duration of one song, it feels like a spiritual cleansing. 🎤 🍛 #LifeInGermany #DailyGermany #GermanCuisine #Bremen #Bremerhaven #BremenFood #GermanBremen
