🇩🇪 Exploring Bonn: Beethoven's City & Cherry Blossom Dreams 🌸
Bonn, the former capital of Germany, may be small in its old town—but it’s packed with charm and history. The best way to explore? On foot! 👣 Here’s a relaxed half-day itinerary: 1️⃣ Beethoven-Haus 🏠🎹 Beyond the famous cherry blossoms, Bonn is also the city of Beethoven. Born in 1770 at Bonngasse 20, his childhood home is now a museum dedicated to his life and music. 2️⃣ Sternentor (Star Gate) 🌟 Wander the cobblestone lanes and you’ll find this sturdy medieval gate with a poetic name. Nearby cafés under leafy trees are perfect for a cool drink 🍹, people-watching, and lazy afternoons in the sun. 3️⃣ Münsterplatz & Beethoven Monument 🗿 This central square features a bronze statue of Beethoven, erected in 1845 for his 75th birthday. That same year, the first Beethoven Music Festival was held here! 🎻 Every September/October, the festival returns—musicians from around the world perform his works and share their own. 4️⃣ Bonn Minster (Münster Basilica) ⛪ Built over 300 years starting in 1120, this cathedral dominates the square. What’s unusual? The two sculpted heads of martyrs near the entrance—a solemn tribute to soldiers who died defending Bonn. 5️⃣ HARIBO Store 🐻🍬 Follow the colors and you’ll find the iconic HARIBO flagship store! With dozens of gummy flavors and a giant yellow bear, it’s a sugar paradise. Don’t miss the pick-and-mix section! 6️⃣ University of Bonn & Hofgarten 📚🌿 Right next to HARIBO lies the university and its lush Hofgarten park. In spring and summer, students sunbathe, read, and chat—a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the vibe. 7️⃣ Bonn City Hall 🏛️ Heading back, you’ll see the Rococo-style City Hall. When Bonn was the capital, this building welcomed kings, queens, and world leaders. You can cover all these highlights in half a day!
