🇩🇪 Munich Hiking | Hidden Gem Lakes of the Alps (Part 1)
After 5 years of hiking in Munich, I’ve nearly explored all the hidden gem lakes in the German Alps! All trips were done via public transport, and I’m organizing the guides into 3 parts. Most lakes in this post are beginner-friendly—perfect for a weekend day trip with same-day return! Follow for more lake guides so you won’t miss updates! 📍 Eibsee Best time to visit: June-October (most beautiful) ⏱ Hiking duration: 1 hour 50 minutes for a full loop; you can walk on the frozen lake in winter ❄️ ⭐ Difficulty: Easy (minimal elevation changes) 🚞 Transportation: From Munich Hauptbahnhof (Main Station), take RB6 from Platform 27 to Garmisch, then transfer to Bus 9840. Total travel time: 2 hours 23 minutes ⏳ 📍 Walchensee ⏱ Hiking duration: Recommend 3-4 hours. Full loop is not suggested (it takes at least 5.5 hours!). Cycling around the lake is a better option 🚴♂️ ⭐ Difficulty: Easy (flat paths, kid-friendly 👶) 🚌 Transportation: From Munich Hbf, take RB66 from Platforms 27-33 to Kochel Station, then transfer to Bus 9608 directly to the lake. 📍 Schrecksee Best time to visit: July-September ⏱ Hiking duration: 5-6 hours ⭐ Difficulty: Difficult (lots of gravel slopes, hiking boots required 🥾). Not recommended for beginners 🚞 Transportation: Take a train from Munich Hauptbahnhof to Sonthofen. Transfer to Bus 48 to Bad Hindelang. Transfer to Bus 49 to Hinterstein Grüner Hut. Finally, transfer to Bus 50 (3.3€ cash 💶) and get off at Hinterstein Auele (start of the hike). Total travel time: 3 hours 16 minutes. One-way hiking takes at least 3 hours—paths have much gravel and slippery downhills. 📍 Tegernsee Best time to visit: All seasons 🌸❄️ ⏱ Hiking duration: Recommend 4-5 hours ⭐ Difficulty: Easy (you can also just walk along the lake shore 🚶♀️) 🚞 Transportation: From Munich Hauptbahnhof Platform 33, take RB57 directly to Tegernsee. Total travel time: 1 hour 10 minutes. 📍 Alpsee Best time to visit: October (most beautiful in autumn 🍂) ⏱ Hiking duration: 1 hour 30 minutes for a loop ⭐ Difficulty: Easy (a few small gravel slopes) 🚞 Transportation: From Munich Hauptbahnhof Platform 31, take a train, then transfer to Bus 73/78 and get off at Neuschwanstein Castle Station. Total travel time: About 3 hours. Photo tip: Head to Pindarplatz viewing point! From 2-3 PM, sunlight filters through the lake water, creating the most dreamy colors 💧✨ 📌 General Guide Must-bring items: Hiking boots, sunglasses, waterproof jacket, 1L water, small amount of cash 💶 Transport hack: Use the DB app to check routes in advance—mountain areas often have no signal. Monthly passes are valid. Recommended app: Outdooractive (for customizing hiking routes 🗺️) “Nature never hurries, yet it accomplishes everything.” Stay tuned for—it’ll be even more amazing! #GermanyTravel #Munich #Hiking #MyHikingDiary #HealingScenery #EuropeTravel #HikingGuide #RecommendedHikingRoutes #OutdoorHiking #Eibsee
