🇩🇪 Philly’s Viral German Pork Knuckle
🍺 Brauhaus Schmitz — this South Street German spot has been trending online for years. 🐖 But why did no one mention the pork knuckle tasted… rancid?! Not sure how else to describe it — that oily, stale flavor you know isn’t fresh. The sauerkraut underneath was tasty, and the skin was crispy, but the meat was tough. 🍡 Sausage Platter was delicious!! One cheese-filled sausage was especially good — though honestly, you can find equally amazing German sausages at Italian Market or Reading Terminal Market. 🐔 Chicken wings were just okay. 🥩 Why order steak at a German restaurant? Felt like eating at HoKe’s Cafe (a nostalgic Chinese steakhouse chain) — not in a good way. 🍞 The complimentary bread with butter was fantastic though! 🍺 Beer — of course! We tried a dark beer and a peach beer — both great. Their beer menu feels endless — if you don’t drink beer often, just ask for recommendations. ✅ TL;DR: Great for big group hangouts where atmosphere matters — huge portions, friendly chatty servers. Not for food snobs — go for the vibe, not the gourmet experience. With the Club World Cup and events lately, it’s probably extra lively in there now 🎉. #Philly #PhillyEats #PhillyRestaurants #GermanFood #StudentEats #PhillyLife #StudyAbroadEats
