🇩🇪 Where to Find the Best German Food in Munich?
I’ve been to Germany four times now, and while most of my friends aren’t big fans of German cuisine, as a hardcore German food (especially sausage) lover, I always make it my first choice. Here’s a casual roundup of the German restaurants I’ve tried in Munich! (Listed in no particular order) 1️⃣ Ratskeller München Heard it’s like a city hall canteen – the ambiance and decor are definitely nicer than your average German restaurant. Not too noisy, and the food is delicious! Overall, the flavors aren’t too heavy, so if you find traditional German food too salty, this is the place to go! 👍 2️⃣ Zum Franziskaner A TUM friend brought us here. We ordered the usual: pork knuckle, sausages, and schnitzel. The knuckle was tender with crispy skin – really tasty! The Nuremberg-style sausages were great, the sauerkraut was delicious, and the schnitzel was just as good as the ones in Vienna. The dessert portion was huge! Highly recommended! (Reservations accepted) 🍖 3️⃣ Hofbräuhaus München The famous HB! This was my first German restaurant in Germany, and I thought it was amazing back then. But when I tried it again last year, it didn’t hit the same… maybe the magic faded lol 😅. Still worth experiencing for the atmosphere, but flavor-wise, it’s just okay. 4️⃣ Augustiner Stammhaus Neither their pork knuckle nor sausages stood out. If you only have one German meal in Munich, I wouldn’t recommend coming here. As a UK student, I went mainly for the sausages, but there was more mashed potato than sausage… unacceptable! 😤 5️⃣ Weisses Bräuhaus im Tal This is the place where I shared a table with locals, drank 4L of beer, and ended up catching COVID! 😂 But seriously, it’s packed with locals. They offer a sausage plate with five different types, so you can try them all at once. Highly recommended! 🌭 6️⃣ Rischart If you love pretzels, don’t miss this place! Though you can find pretzels anywhere, I’m obsessed with their version topped with sour cream and chives. The one with butter is also delicious! Huge and super satisfying! 🥨 7️⃣ Paulaner am alten Postplatz (Stuttgart) Not in Munich, but this was the best meal of my trip! Those who prefer lighter flavors might find it a bit salty, but I personally loved it – both the sausages and sauerkraut were amazing! 👌 8️⃣ ALATURKA (Kebab – Stuttgart) Also in Stuttgart, and supposedly home to Germany’s best kebab… It was indeed delicious – the meat was flavorful, and the bread was crispy. But the line was incredibly long… If you want to try it, make sure to allow extra time! 🥙 9️⃣ German Food in Other Cities Freiburg, Berlin, Nuremberg, Bayreuth… If you’re planning to visit any of these, let me know – I’d be happy to share more! (Yes, I order sausages everywhere I go… typical German-study-abroad spirit 😆) #MunichFood #GermanCuisine #MunichRestaurants #TravelGermany #SausageLover #FoodReview
