🇩🇰 Copenhagen || Smørrebrød: A 148-Year-Old Tradition
★ If you’re in Copenhagen, you absolutely have to try the open-faced sandwiches at Restaurant Schønnemann. It’s one of the oldest and most iconic traditional Danish lunch restaurants in the city, with a history dating back 148 years to 1877. 🌟 ★ The menu offers a wide variety of options, primarily focusing on Smørrebrød, which features toppings like pickled herring, smoked eel, roast beef, boiled shrimp, eggs, and avocado. The most classic dish is definitely the “Stjerneskud.” 🍴 I ordered a sandwich with Greenland shrimp and pickled herring 🧾. ⦿ GREENLAND SHRIMPS in PYRAMIDE 🦐 This classic open-faced sandwich is a visual delight, with a generous pile of Arctic shrimp forming a mini mountain. The shrimp are fresh and sweet, with a firm texture that pairs beautifully with lemon and dill. The amount of shrimp is so substantial that it could easily satisfy a meal on its own, making the bread almost an afterthought. 🥪 ⦿ Smørrebrød med karrysild 🐟 The pickled herring curry is also one of their signature dishes. The curry sauce is Danish-style, milder than typical curries, with a slightly tangy and sweet flavor. The herring is rich and flavorful, with a fatty texture that complements the sauce perfectly. The combination is complex and layered, though it was a bit too cold for my taste, likely due to being a seasonal dish. I managed to finish it despite the chill! 😅 Although the focus is on the seemingly simple smørrebrød, these sandwiches are far from ordinary. The attention to detail is evident in the marination of the ingredients, the precise proportions of the toppings, and even the pairing with spirits. Each bite carries the tradition of Nordic cuisine, enhanced by the restaurant’s century-old history. Every table here feels steeped in heritage. 『Restaurant Schønneman』 ↘︎ Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 11:30-17:00 ↘︎ Address: Hauser Pl. 16, 1127 København, Denmark #Copenhagen #Denmark #DanishSmørrebrød #DanishCuisine #CopenhagenFood
