🇫🇷 Colmar: The Must-Visit Fairy-Tale Town of France

Save this guide if you’re heading to Colmar! This town is as magical as Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle 🏰. I’ve compiled the most comprehensive list of photo spots and filming locations from the movie. Though you can explore the town in half a day, I highly recommend staying overnight to experience its different moods: sunny and warm in the morning 🌞, peaceful and cozy at night. 🌊 Life is meant to be "wasted" in places like this! 🎬 Town Attractions: 1️⃣ Petite Venice 2️⃣ Fontaine Roesselmann (Town Square & Chinese Restaurant Filming Location) 3️⃣ Vieille Ville (Pink Butterfly House 🦋) 4️⃣ Maison Pfister (Sophie’s House in Howl’s Moving Castle) 5️⃣ Bartholdi Museum (Birthplace of the Statue of Liberty’s Sculptor 🗽) 6️⃣ Saint-Martin Church (Medieval Gothic Style) 7️⃣ Brasserie des Tanneurs (Beautiful Red Fairy-Tale Building) 8️⃣ Au Vieux Pignon (Where Howl and Sophie Walked in the Sky) 9️⃣ The Fishmonger District 🏨 Hotel Recommendation: Hostellerie Le Maréchal (4-star) Many celebrities have visited! The building is gorgeous. Located next to Petite Venice, opposite the Chinese Restaurant filming spot. Rooms overlook the canal — stunning views! The hotel’s French restaurant has high ratings and was once Michelin-listed. 🍴 Restaurant Recommendations: 1️⃣ Les Six Montagnes: Amazing octopus 🐙 and steak — suits Asian tastes! 2️⃣ Bistrot des Lavandières: Filming location for Chinese Restaurant (with cast photos inside). French cuisine, average taste but great location. 3️⃣ Wistub de la Petite Venise: Pretty yellow house serving local dishes. 4️⃣ JY’s: Michelin-starred restaurant — affordable and worth trying if you have time! ☕ Dessert & Café Recommendations: 1️⃣ Au Croissant Doré: A pink café run by a grandmother 👵. Always packed in the morning! They even have vintage Chinese tea tins from last century. Excellent bread, coffee, and cheese cake 🍰! 2️⃣ Pâtisserie Gilg: Highly-rated pastry shop (closed when I visited 😭). #Colmar #ColmarFood #ColmarTown #ColmarGuide #FranceTravel #LifeInFrance #FrenchTown #TravelGuide
