I visited friends in Kingston and discovered this amazing Hunan restaurant: Little Hunan We couldnāt resist coming back twice in just three days! Students at Kingston University, youāre so lucky to have this spot nearby š. Chatted with the owner, and even though the name mentions Sichuan and Hunan their specialty is Hunan cuisine. What stands out? Every dish has that perfect āwok heiā (charred aroma from high-heat stir-frying)āunlike some places that serve lukewarm, bland food. First visit highlights: š¶ļø Stir-Fried Pork Kidney: The kidneys are sliced evenly, tender and crisp, stir-fried with spicy dried chili and green peppers. The aroma hits you instantly! Itās fiery but doesnāt overpower the kidneyās natural flavorāso good with rice. Absolute must-order! š„ Dried Radish with Smoked Pork: Hunanās signature smoked pork has that irresistible smoky scent, paired with crunchy dried radish. The pork is fatty but not greasy, with a hint of wood-fired warmth, while the radish adds a satisfying chew. Addictive with rice! š„ Cold Lotus Root Slices: A refreshing appetizer. Thinly sliced lotus root, tossed in sesame oil and chili powderācrunchy, fresh, with a mild numbing spice. So refreshing! š„¬ Dry Pot Cabbage: Classic Hunan-style dry pot. The cabbage is charred on the outside, tender inside, stir-fried with chili for a rich, non-greasy flavor. š Beer Duck: The aroma alone is incredible! The duck is braised until super tender, soaked in a sauce that balances beerās malt sweetness with Hunanās signature spice. Every bite is layered with flavor! Highly recommend for spice lovers!
