π¬π§ Edinburgh | The Ultimate Japanese Cuisine | Yamato | Kanpai π£π
π£ In-depth comparison of Edinburgh's two top-tier Japanese restaurants During my undergrad years in Edinburgh, these were my go-to spots for Japanese food! Both offer exceptional flavors - arguably the best you'll find outside London. Even when I visited Manchester, I couldn't find anything comparable. πβ¨ π€ The undisputed kings of Edinburgh's Japanese scene Both Yamato and Kanpai Sushi are widely regarded as the city's absolute best. Rumor has it they might even share the same owner - frequent visitors will notice many similarities! ππ± ππ» Menu showdown Yamato offers greater variety with extra options like matsutake mushroom seafood soup and steamed egg dishes. Their sake selection is also more extensive. Kanpai focuses more on sushi - and honestly, their sushi might be slightly better! π vs π π Michelin recognition Kanpai has received Michelin recommendation (while Yamato hasn't), likely thanks to their superior sushi skills. But both maintain excellent ingredient quality - I've never encountered anything less than fresh! π£β¨ π₯ Must-try drinks At Yamato, don't miss their affordable yet amazing Daishichi plum wine. The Nanbu Bijin sake is another winner! πΆβ€οΈ π₯’ Pre-pandemic memories Both restaurants were even better before COVID - with more extensive menus. Yamato's special tonkotsu ramen used to rival London's best ramen joints... sadly it disappeared post-pandemic. π’π π° Pricing Expect to spend around Β£100 per person at either establishment. π· #UKLife #EdinburghFood #Edinburgh #EdinburghJapanese #EdinburghRamen #EdinburghSushi #EdinburghEats #EdinburghExploration
