While the food was great at the restaurant, it took several attempts for it to be served correctly. The night I visited there was clearly something not right, and service was poor. The staff don't appear to be very clear on which menu items contain which allergens and therefore I wouldn't recommended for those with dietary requirements.
When I arrived with my friends, I notified the waiter that we had a reservation and they pointed, not showed, us to our table on the other side of the room. They seemed pretty unhappy, and I don't mean in a 'you should be smiling!' type of way, in a something isn't right at this restaurant kind of way and morale is low. The atmosphere was a little colder than I expected.
We were served water pretty quickly and then drinks came a little after. However, we had to ask to take our food order after about 30 minutes of sitting down. At this point I asked about the dishes I ordered as I am coeliac. They weren't aware of which dishes were suitable and said they'd ask the chef about my order. Fair enough, I'm not super familiar with sushi and I don't know for certain what I can and can't eat.
About 30 minutes later only a small amount of our order had arrived, so we asked another waiter what was happening. Another staff member then comes by and checks our order with us - which is not what we ordered and included other items. We still haven't had clarification on the gluten situation. The waiter tells me that a item on my order can't be prepared gluten free, then tells me it can with a modification. Great. They then return about 10 minutes later and tell me I need to choose another item.
At this stage I'm quite flustered and starting to get frustrated as we're coming up to 90 minutes in the restaurant. Annoyingly, my friends had already been served their food, after we checked the order, and I'm still waiting. Eventually I asked for the food to be wrapped up and to take it with me when it was finally served, which was then arranged promptly. I was also told this would be on the house, given the issues I'd experienced.
However, the bill arrived and the cost of my order had not been deducted from it! The staff did rectify this when we asked, but this was a lot of things that went wrong, and I can see that someone may feel to awkward to ask for the bill to be changed. To their credit, they did take appear to take their mistakes seriously and it may just have been a...
Read moreGot there for our reservation at 8pm, were stood in the lobby for 10-15 minutes before being taken to our table. Ordered food around 8.30. Some people in my party got food within half an hour, such as gyozas and a sushi roll while others such as myself didn't receive anything until around 9.30, an hour after ordering. The sushi roll I got was very nice, but quite pricey at around £15.
Staff seemed to be rushing around and appeared to be very stressed, the manager didn't appear to be doing anything other than chatting to people at the bar.
We ordered some Sake after finishing our initial drinks while we were waiting for food to turn up (which most of it never did). The sake never came so we asked a waiter where it was and then another 10 minutes after that we finally got it.
In the end after waiting for an hour and a half, we still didn't have most of the food we had ordered and so we ended up cancelling the rest of our order and getting the bill. We were overcharged by £30, one item was an extra sake that we didn't receive, probably due to chasing the initial sake we'd ordered and another bottle of something that no one at the table had ordered.
I ended up paying £30 for a sushi roll, a glass of wine and a third of a bottle of sake, with the sushi roll not turning up until an hour after I'd ordered it.
The staff, other than the manager, were all very apologetic and seemed to be extremely stressed. We were told that part of the reason for the delay was that they had ran out of rice. We were only told this after chasing the food we'd ordered an hour ago. If I was the manager at a sushi restaurant and we ran out of rice then I would be very very embarrassed.
Overall, the food that we did get was fine but arrived in dribs and drabs, with around 2/3 of what we'd ordered just never arriving and in the end after being there for nearly two hours, we gave up which I have never done before at a restaurant.
Overbooked, understaffed and very...
Read moreSimply overrated. Not an authentic Japanese restaurant. The food alone was not so bad and could still easily secure 3 or marginally 4 stars. However, this poor review was about how they chose to run a restaurant and the way they treated their customers.
In terms of food, the biggest miss was messing up the supposedly light and airy Japanese tempura batter. If you enjoy Japanese food, you would probably admire the careful juxtaposition of ingredients altogether, of which the skills were lacking in this restaurant. Sashimi was of a small portion but being plated in an oversized bowl for presentation, etc.
In terms of services, unreasonably rude! 30 min after I was seated and had just started eating, I was told to leave in another 30 min's time. I was not told about the time restriction at the beginning. Besides, from my observation of the table next to me (also a solo diner), she was given 90 min to eat and the message was communicated at the beginning when she was seated.
I had to admit that I did have some expectation for a £60 meal per person (food only, no wine). Even a fast-food type sushi store would not kick me out of the premises when my mouth was full. By the time I left the restaurant as they wanted, the restaurant was not even 20% full.
It gave me the impression that they only cared about making money, put the food on your table and urged you to leave. They did not care whether you needed time to eat them! They had no passion to take Japanese food as an art form. No respect to diners whatsoever. They did not even know how to run a regular restaurant with their bookings and...
