🇬🇧 Som Saa's Fried Seabass in London is the Ultimate Thai Delight
Looking for a Thai izakaya? Try Som Saa. Som Saa is tucked away in East London's old industrial district. The ambiance is super atmospheric. The menu is limited, but they offer set menus. This place is perfect for drinks—almost every dish pairs incredibly well with alcohol. We spent £94.44 for two people without drinks (I’ve been on a diet lately), but we’ve enjoyed their drinks on previous visits. 💰 The average spend is £30-60 per person, depending on your choices. Here are my thoughts on the dishes we had: 1️⃣ Daily Som Dtam (Green Papaya Salad) £13.50 Tangy, spicy, and refreshing with a hint of fermentation. It’s incredibly appetizing (though it’s a daily special, I feel like it’s always on the menu). It’s a bit salty. 2️⃣ Grilled Pork (Mu Yaang) £9.50 The pork neck is perfectly grilled. The meat is rich in flavor. The dipping sauce really enhances the taste. Highly recommended, though the portion is a bit small. It pairs even better with drinks. 3️⃣ Isaan Style Seabass (Nahm Dtok Plaa Thort) £22.50 I give this dish five stars⭐️. It’s their signature. The fried seabass with a tangy and spicy sauce is incredibly satisfying. The texture is rich and fulfilling. 4️⃣ Braised Pork (Mu Parlow) £16.50 The pork is very flavorful and tender. Perfect for those who love Chinese-style braised dishes. It goes incredibly well with rice. 5️⃣ Chicken Herbal Curry (Gaeng Gm Gai) £16.50 The spices are layered and complex. It’s rich but not greasy. Another great dish to enjoy with rice. Overall, the dishes are a bit salty and best enjoyed with rice. If you’re drinking, it will be even more enjoyable (their crispy fried chicken skin is also great with drinks!). The vibe at Som Saa is very comfortable. The service can be a bit slow as the staff are quite busy, but everyone around us seemed to be having a great time. We booked in advance, and I recommend you do the same.
