πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ The Ancestor of English Gardens: A Perfect Day Trip in London

Another extraordinary estate in central London is reopening this Friday (May 24th)! 🌟 Following my previous note, just a stone's throw away from Hogarth's House is a site of immense importance in the history of British architecture and gardening: Chiswick House and Gardens. 🏰 Built between 1726 and 1729, this estate is one of the earliest and most important neo-Palladian villas in England and one of the most brilliant examples of 18th-century British architecture. It's a perfect spot for a day trip in West London. Inspired by his grand tour of Italy, the 3rd Earl of Burlington designed this noble Roman/neo-Palladian villa, a style that greatly influenced the design of English country houses throughout the 18th century. This was the earl's elegant venue for displaying his art collection and entertaining friends. πŸŽ‰ The gardens of Chiswick House are considered the birthplace of the English landscape garden movement. After extensive restoration, they have reopened, with the original landscapes recreated and statues and garden buildings restored. 🌳 After the earl's death, Chiswick House was inherited by the Duke of Devonshire. From the 1860s, the house was let, and at one point, it even served as an asylum for the mentally ill. The house and gardens are currently managed by the Chiswick House and Gardens Trust. 🌿 Chiswick House will be open from May 24th to September 29th this year. Adult admission is Β£11. The gardens and kitchen garden are free to visit and will be open until October 27th. Note that during the opening period, the house and gardens are only open from Thursday to Sunday each week. πŸ•°οΈ #UK #London #Chiswick #ChiswickHouse #Estate #Villa #Gardens #LandscapeGardening #EnglishGarden #Italy #Architecture #Palladian #NeoPalladian #Romanesque #NotebookInspiration #DailyPLOG #RomanticLifeChronicles
