🇬🇪 Sighnaghi | The Ultimate Guide After Reading 100+ Travel Blogs

As the third stop on my Georgia trip, Sighnaghi — the birthplace of wine and a town known as the "City of Love" — did not disappoint. Nestled beneath snow-capped mountains, it’s incredibly romantic ❄️❤️. Here’s your complete guide on how to get there, what to do, where to eat, and where to stay! 🚗 Getting There From Tbilisi, take a taxi to Návtlugi Intercity Bus Terminal. Drivers will ask if you’re going to Sighnaghi. Minibus: 10 GEL/person (fits ~26 people). Departs daily at 9 AM/11 AM — arrive early! Seats fill fast. *Note: Buses are basic (and a bit rough). 2-hour ride.* Return: Buses leave Sighnaghi at 4 PM/6 PM. Be at the station 30 mins early. 🌟 What to Do 1️⃣ Sighnaghi Museum: Learn about Georgian ethnography, tribal life, and traditional culture. 2️⃣ Okro’s Wine: A family-run restaurant with wine tastings 🍷. Try the grilled pork ribs — and request a window seat for mountain views! 3️⃣ St. Stephen Church: A weathered old church guarded by an elderly caretaker (entry: 1 GEL). 4️⃣ Cafe Medea: Must-try wine ice cream (7 GEL) 🍦. The shop sits under a fortress with panoramic town views. 5️⃣ St. George Basilica: The town’s iconic church (may not be open indoors). 6️⃣ Sighnaghi Walls: The largest fortress in the South Caucasus — walk the ancient ramparts! Extra time? Hike to the viewpoint on the hillside for a full town vista, or take a taxi to Bodbe Monastery (3 km away) — the resting place of St. Nino. 🧀 Where to Eat Besides Okro’s Wine, many restaurants near the walls offer scenic dining. Perfect for a view with your meal! 🏨 Where to Stay Sighnaghi is small. You can stay overnight, but it’s not necessary unless you want to soak in the romance. Many guesthouses are available. #HiddenGems #GeorgiaTravel #Sighnaghi #WineLovers #OffTheBeatenPath #TravelDiary
