🇮🇸 Iceland | How to Spend a Day Exploring Reykjavík on Foot
Hello! I’m a global travel photographer currently based in Iceland. Advance bookings open for photo sessions! Iceland is the world’s northernmost country, and Reykjavík is the northernmost capital. In winter, it’s a snow-covered world with just four hours of daylight—hence the colorful houses everywhere! That said, Reykjavík is charmingly compact and perfect for a day of exploring on foot. 1️⃣ Hallgrímskirkja ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A must-see landmark in Reykjavík. Its design resembles a giant pipe organ, inspired by Iceland’s basalt landscapes. 📸 Photo Tips: On sunny days, visit in the morning—the light through the stained-glass windows is magical. On snowy days, the church looks straight out of Game of Thrones. 🕘 Open: 10:00 - 17:00 🎫 Free entry (1000 ISK to climb the tower for panoramic city views—worth it!). 2️⃣ Rainbow Street & Art ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Right opposite the church, this street is full of artistic vibes—perfect for a slow stroll. You’ll find colorful houses, graffiti (including messages about global issues), souvenir shops, indie designer stores, record shops, and cozy pubs. 🕘 Shops open around 10:00 - 17:00 (many close early in bad weather—very laid-back!). 🎫 Free to explore. 3️⃣ Icelandic Phallological Museum ⭐⭐⭐ A quirky, educational spot—more niche than exciting. Saw local school kids visiting… sex education starts early here! 🕘 Open: 10:00 - 19:00 🎫 3000 ISK 4️⃣ Harpa Concert Hall ⭐⭐ A bit underwhelming. Many exhibits were closed, and upper levels were inaccessible. Skip unless you’re passing by. 🕘 Open: 10:00 - 17:00 🎫 Free entry 5️⃣ Tjörnin Lake ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely loved it! Serene yet lively. In winter, the frozen lake gathers swans, ducks, and seagulls in the only unfrozen section. Locals feed them bread—so peaceful. Perfect for sitting with hot chocolate and daydreaming. 🎫 Free #SeeTheWorldToUnderstandIt #Iceland #TravelIceland #IcelandTravel #IcelandPhotography
