🇮🇸 Reykjavik City Tour – Day 1 (June 13, 2025)
Our long-awaited Iceland road trip has finally begun! ✨ In the early morning, our plane landed smoothly at Keflavik Airport under the nearly endless sunlight. 🌅 Excitement instantly took over! After meeting up with old friends, we drove straight to Costco and loaded up on smoked fish, vegetables, fruits, bread, and snacks—filling two huge boxes and packing the car to the brim. 🛒🚗 Just like the saying goes: "An army marches on its stomach!" 😄 Today’s itinerary: 1️⃣ Hallgrímskirkja ⛪ As the landmark of Reykjavik, this church draws inspiration from Iceland’s basalt lava flows. It’s the largest church in Iceland, with an unforgettable unique design. Climb the tower for a panoramic view of the city’s colorful rooftops and the distant mountains and sea. 2️⃣ Tjörnin Lake 🦢 A peaceful lake in the city center surrounded by cultural buildings like City Hall, the National Gallery, and churches. It’s a popular local spot for relaxation—feed swans and ducks while soaking in Iceland’s calm and charm. 💙 3️⃣ National Museum of Iceland 🏛️ We stumbled upon this “small but beautiful” museum, which treasures a thousand years of history from the Viking settlement era to modern civilization. A walk through it feels like reading a condensed version of Iceland’s history. 📜 4️⃣ The National Gallery of Iceland 🎨 Unfortunately, it was already closed when we arrived. We’ll save the exhibitions for next time—a small regret for now. 5️⃣ Sun Voyager 🌞⚓ An iconic sculpture by the Reykjavik seaside, shaped like a Viking ship skeleton. It symbolizes Iceland’s seafaring spirit and is a popular spot for photos. 📸 6️⃣ Laugavegur Shopping Street 🛍️ The liveliest street in Reykjavik, lined with unique boutiques, cafés, and art galleries. We also found Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur nearby—a famous Icelandic hot dog stand claiming to serve “the best hot dogs in the world.” And they really were delicious! #Iceland #Reykjavik #TravelIceland #IcelandRoadTrip #CityTour #ExploreIceland #TravelDiary #NordicAdventure
