Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy (Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella) 🪴 Located in Florence, Italy, the Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella was established in 1221 by Dominican friars within their monastery to prepare herbal remedies, perfumes, and ointments. One of the oldest pharmacies still in operation worldwide, it has a history spanning over 800 years. Since opening to the public in 1612, it has been a favorite among European royalty. Today, it’s not just a pharmacy but also a museum of fragrance art, featuring exquisite frescoes, classical furniture, and the friars’ original recipe manuscripts.
