🇲🇦 7-Day Morocco Tour: Ouarzazate

On the second day, drive 4 hours east from Marrakech to reach Ouarzazate, a city whose name comes from the indigenous Berber language, meaning "clear" or "without noise." It serves as the gateway to the Draa Valley and the Sahara Desert. The Ksar of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies west of the city and is known as the "Door of the Desert." This famous filming location has been featured in movies like The Mummy (1999) and Gladiator (2000), as well as the TV series Game of Thrones. 📍 Aït Benhaddou A fortified village and ancient city with over a dozen mud-brick houses, it’s a prime example of Moroccan clay architecture. Closes at 6:30 PM, so plan ahead! 📍 Taourirt Kasbah 💸 20 MAD (Guide: 100 MAD) A historic Berber fortress and film set. Local Berber guides (English-speaking) offer fascinating insights into Berber culture—highly recommended! 📍 Todra Gorge (Todra River) A scenic stop between Ouarzazate and Merzouga (the Sahara Desert gateway). Perfect for photos, with many viewpoints along the way. 🍲 Restaurant Barka Tizi A great pit stop between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, featuring a scenic terrace and fresh orange juice. 🍲 TANMIRT Tried camel meat, pumpkin soup, and grilled veggies here—all delicious!
