🇲🇦 Morocco Road Trip: The Perfect Fes → Merzouga Itinerary!
Picking up from the last post—after exploring Chefchaouen until 4 PM, we hit the road to Fes (no highway, but smooth roads!). Arrived by evening. 1️⃣ Accommodation: Staying in the Medina Booked a traditional Riad (courtyard hotel) in the old city. Parking Tip: Cars can’t enter narrow alleys—locals will "guide" you (for a fee 💸). I paid 30 MAD (they refused 20! 😅). Pro tip: Stay near Bab Boujloud (Blue Gate) to explore on foot the next day. 2️⃣ Navigating Fes "Guides" will approach you everywhere—ignore them if you’re confident with Google Maps! Fes is pricier for "services" (tips, parking) than other cities. 3️⃣ Must-See Attractions 📍 Bab Boujloud (Blue Gate) Blue on the outside, green inside—great for photos. 📍 Bou Inania Madrasa (20 MAD) A stunning 14th-century Islamic school—mostly just photo ops without a guide. 📍 Al Quaraouiyine University World’s oldest degree-granting university (non-Muslims can’t enter). 📍 Chouara Tannery Google Maps leads to a dead-end alley—look for the small door (held open by a man in blue). Mint leaves (10 MAD) are a must for the smell! 4️⃣ Shopping in the Medina Haggle hard (start at 50% off!) for leather bags, rugs, and ceramics. 5️⃣ FOOD GEM: Best Meal in Morocco! 🍖 Grill House (unnamed, see my photo for reference) Order grilled lamb/beef (0.5kg per person). No menu? Show my pic (Fig. 12) to the waiter! 6️⃣ Ifrane: A Quick Stop A French-style alpine town (pretty in snow ❄️), but skippable otherwise. 7️⃣ Midelt: Overnight Pit Stop 🚗 Fes → Merzouga is 7+ hours—break it up in Midelt (famous for apples). 🏨 Stayed at a decent chain hotel (DM me for details). 🌄 Caught an epic sunset over the Atlas Mountains! 8️⃣ Nightlife Tip Alcohol isn’t sold openly, but Fes has discreet bars—ask me for recs! 🍸 #MoroccoRoadTrip #FesToSahara #TravelSmart #HiddenGems
