🇲🇪 Montenegro Travel Third Stop: Kotor Guide
When people think of Montenegro, Kotor is often the first place that comes to mind. This famous Mediterranean port city is now the face of Montenegrin tourism, attracting countless visitors every year. Here, you’ll find a beautiful ancient town, stunning natural landscapes, historical sites, and the breathtaking beaches and islands of Perast. It’s a must-visit destination in Europe. 📚 Historical Tidbits Kotor is nestled deep in the Bay of Boka, part of the Adriatic Sea, and is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the region. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1973. As one traveler aptly put it, "If you only visit one place in Montenegro, it has to be Kotor." 🏞️ What to Do 1️⃣ Kotor Old Town One of the best-preserved ancient towns in the Balkans and the poster child of Montenegro. This classic European town features attractions like the Catholic Cathedral, Clock Tower, Maritime Museum, Cat Museum, and the iconic Kotor City Walls. Another highlight? The streets are filled with adorable cats—so many that they’ve become a symbol of the town. Animal lovers, don’t miss this! 2️⃣ Kotor Fortress The ruins of a medieval fortress built on St. John’s Hill behind the old town, offering a bird’s-eye view of Kotor. It’s a fantastic spot for night photography, though the hike up can be tiring. Check my previous post for a detailed guide. 3️⃣ Perast A picturesque coastal town about 13 km from Kotor, often called "Parise Town" for its stunning beauty. Every shot by the sea feels like a lifetime masterpiece. Key sights include Our Lady of the Rocks, St. George Island, the Perast Museum and Castle, and St. Nicholas Church. It’s a treasure trove of history, culture, and natural beauty. I’ll cover Perast in detail in my next post. 🍜 Food Guide Local cuisine focuses on fast food, seafood, and steak, which might not fully suit Chinese palates. However, prices are reasonable even in the Eurozone. Here are a few places I enjoyed: 1️⃣ BBQ Tanjga A popular local steakhouse with great taste and fair prices—rare for a tourist spot. 2️⃣ La Cathedral Pasta Bar A pasta restaurant with a wide variety of dishes. A plate of pasta costs around €10, and their coffee is also good. Perfect for an afternoon break. 3️⃣ Bastion 1 Recommended by our host, this spot specializes in seafood and Western dishes. The mussels and trout are tasty but a bit salty. The downside? Prices are higher (trout is €40-50), but the outdoor dining ambiance is lovely. 4️⃣ Moritz Eis A local ice cream chain with outlets everywhere. Their nut-flavored ice cream is particularly delicious. Don’t miss it if you have a sweet tooth! #TravelTheWorld #GlobalAdventure #TravelWithXiaohongshu #EuropeTravel
