🇳🇿 Second Time in NZ | South Island Road Trip Days 8-9
📌 First Impressions My first encounter with Marlborough was through its famous wines—so many bottles labeled "Marlborough"! 🍷 Naturally, I had to visit. Picton, the gateway between the North and South Islands (thanks to the Wellington ferry), is also the perfect base for exploring the Marlborough Sounds. This trip? All about scenery and Sauvignon Blanc! 🚗 Itinerary Highlights ⏱️ Nelson → Picton (2.5h drive) 📍 Cloudy Bay Vineyards The moment you enter Marlborough, vineyards take over the roadsides! 🍇 "Just here to look"—but of course, I left with a bottle of their iconic Sauvignon Blanc. Worth it. 🥂 🗒️ Activities in Picton The marina offers sound cruises, dolphin tours, kayaking, etc.—pick based on weather & time! 🥾 Hiking Trails 1️⃣ The Snout Track: Stunning sound views! 2️⃣ The Tirohanga Track: Picton panorama (closed during my visit 😢). Pro tip: If open, do both! 📍 Picton Scenic Overlook Drive-up lazy option for harbor views. 📍 Shakespeare Bay Lookout Meh. Mostly a logging factory view. 📍 Karaka Point 5-min walk from the car park—easy and pretty! 📍 🌟The Snout Track🌟 Park at Victoria Domain → Snout Track Carpark (or walk past 3 viewpoints). 40-50min to the summit—jaw-dropping sound vistas! Optional extra 50min to the very end (I skipped it). 🍽️ Food Recs Bento Sushi (Blenheim): Tasty pitstop! 🍣 Toastie Lords: Great breakfast toasties—fuel for adventures! 🍞 🏨 Picton Waterfront Apartments Location perfection: Central, harbor views from the balcony 🍷. Fully equipped: Ideal for lazy mornings or DIY meals. Verdict: Sipped wine, hiked epic trails, and soaked in marina vibes—Picton delivered! 🌊✨ #NewZealand #SouthIslandNZ #MarlboroughWine #PictonTravel #NZRoadTrip
