Recommended route order: Wellington Cable Car (Take the iconic red cable car uphill) Botanic Garden πΏ Academy of Fine Arts Gallery π¨ Wellington Museum St Mary of the Angels (Gothic-style Catholic church) Cuba Street (Vibrant bohemian district) Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Optional extensions: Oriental Bay beach stroll ποΈ Mount Victoria summit hike The city is compact β all locations are 5-15 mins walk apart. Uber is also convenient (airport transfers cost ~NZ$25-30). Travel Diary: On my final day in NZ, sunshine replaced yesterday's rain! βοΈ 9am: Museums weren't open yet, so I rode the red cable car (serendipity β the station was opposite my hotel! π). At the hilltop: Wandered through Botanic Garden, breathing in lush greenery and moss. Photographed the coastal cityscape and cable cars. On descent, saw a couple cradling their dog gazing out the window β NZ truly loves pets! β€οΈπΆ Post-cable car: Visited an art gallery. Three works stood out: β Coffee at Work (sketches of coffee surface evolution) π The Visual World is Inexhaustible (award-winning collage of life's minutiae) π A poignant dog portrait Wellington Museum: Learned about MΔori and colonial history. St Mary's: Softer Gothic architecture. Sat quietly during Mass. Cuba Street: Brunch at Neo Cafe & Eatery, then coastal wandering. Felt like a relaxed version of Hong Kong!
