πΊπΈ Hidden Gem Restaurants in an Underrated City + Reflections
π Ladino A Mediterranean restaurant tucked away in the Pearl District πΏπ½οΈ. No IG location tag, yet packed with locals! Mediterranean food often makes you think of sea bass π and pita π«, but here in landlocked Texas, we decided to go all in on the meat β and every dish was a surprise. It felt like stumbling upon international cuisine that could have been crafted by a Shanghai chef, but then again, maybe not so surprising β Texas already has its own grilling DNA π₯. π₯ Freshly baked pita β puffed up and fluffy straight from the bright, spacious oven. Delicious on its own. π«Ά Dips β Highly recommend the Hummus and Tirshi. π Lamb Belly Ribs β β€οΈβπ₯ MUST ORDER!! Crispy skin + melt-in-your-mouth lamb, zero gamey taste ππ. β¨ Pro way to eat it: Stuff the lamb into pita with cilantro and hummus β unbeatable! π Saffron Chicken β A classic combo? Saffron + chicken isnβt new, but here itβs salt-roasted with a tangy lemon twist π. π Pilaf rice mixed with fish β firm, round βwhite people rice.β Not a fan π . π¦ Ice Cream Sandwich β Tastes like cheesecake + mille-feuille + ice cream combo! First time trying something like this β loved it! Top layer: pistachio crisps & flaky pastry (like Dubai chocolate vibes β¨). Middle: rich, creamy cheese-flavored ice cream. Bottom: buttery, crunchy biscuit base. πΊοΈ An underrated city to tourists, but a home to those who belong here. Texas smells like wood and a hint of smoke β comforting, vintage, drenched in hot sunlight βοΈ. People here are sturdy, cheeks sun-red, drinking from morning to night π». The city isnβt flashy, yet itβs full of grand architecture and charming little corners. From old-school steakhouses by the Riverwalk to taco trucks by the highway; A cinema inside a mall that looks like a palace π, and Pearl Districtβs one-of-a-kind local mart β handmade pasta, cured ham, sauces from around the world neatly lined up, with Lao Gan Ma proudly representing China π¨π³. No one wears Lululemon. Everyone has their own style: cowboy boots π’, polka-dot dresses, woven shoes β but luxury brands and fancy cars are rare. Downtown felt safe β no homeless in sight, just strangers offering tips on cheaper parking π ΏοΈ, and a floral-dress grandma who smiled, βWelcome to SATX.β Being approached didnβt feel scary here. This may not be where Iβd settle down, but Iβll remember: The super blue skies and the incredibly good Texas BBQ ππ. #USATravel #HiddenFoodGems #DiscoverTheCity #SanAntonio
