🇺🇸 Lancaster, PA · 2-Day Amish Country Trip 🐎✨
We visited Lancaster’s Amish Country – a step back in time! Many attractions require advance booking via Google Maps links. Note: Operating hours vary, so plan ahead. Just a 2.5-hour drive from NYC or DC – super convenient for a weekend getaway! Here’s our itinerary: Day 1: 🚗 Abe’s Buggy Ride No advance tickets – book on arrival. Last ride at 4:30 PM (closes at 5 PM). We did the 20-minute ride (2 miles) – perfect for a taste! Longer options (30min/1hr) available. Day 2: 🚂 Strasburg Rail Road Booked first-class tickets online (360° swivel sofa seats!). Runs hourly from 10 AM–3 PM (45min ride). Complimentary drinks + optional professional photos (buy at photo booth after). 🏡 The Amish Village Tour Open 9 AM–6 PM – no advance tickets needed. Basic tour included a guided visit to an 1840s house (once home to 10 people!). After the 30-min tour, explore the farm and gift shop at your own pace. 🍽️ Dienner’s Country Restaurant Open 7 AM–6 PM – a delicious buffet! Skip crowded Katie’s Kitchen and head here. Highlights: mashed potatoes with beef stew, fried chicken, clam chowder, chicken noodle soup! Waited 15 mins during peak hour. 🍦 Lapp Valley Farm Cafe Open 7 AM–8 PM – milk-based ice cream (a bit too sweet for me). You can request a taste before buying! Missed Spots (Next Time!): Smucker’s Gourd Farm: Current Amish family – handmade crafts and cultural exchange! Old Windmill Farm: Highly recommended (closed Sun/Tue/Wed). About the Amish: Lancaster’s Amish community lives as if frozen in the 19th century. As a conservative Christian group, they reject modern technology, embrace farming, and dress simply. You’ll see black horse-drawn buggies, women in white caps, and men with untrimmed beards and wide-brimmed hats. #AmishCountry #LancasterPA #TravelUSA #CulturalExperience #WeekendGetaway 🐮🌽
