While North American hotels generally don’t match the level of service in Asia, there’s been a rise of stylish independent brands lately – and Proper Hotel is one of them! ✨ Founded in San Francisco in 2015, the Austin location (opened in 2017) is their second property. The founder previously created the luxury Viceroy group. I stayed at Austin Proper for a work trip and loved the experience! The design feels inspired by Tulum, Mexico – bright, warm, and soothingly curated. 🌵🌞 Austin’s wellness culture is strong, and the hotel reflects that. The city’s new motto? “10am is the new 10pm” 🧘✨ The gym is fully equipped – they even have two Pilates reformers! I didn’t miss my daily workout. 💪 Toiletries are Aesop (yes, full range!). 🧴 A highlight: La Piscina, the Mexican rooftop restaurant 🌮🌮 Their Fajitas are famous (highly recommended by locals!). We tried grilled shrimp – incredible! 🍤 Fun fact: There were three tables of women playing mahjong! 🀄 The staff said they’re part of a poker club that meets there. The restaurant accommodates them when it’s not too busy.
