🇺🇸 Proper Hotel | L.A.’s Trendy Design Hotel Has Come to Austin!
I hadn’t even heard of its reputation—but I was instantly drawn in by its unique design vibes. 😍 So I decided to try brunch at Proper and see what makes this chic, slightly mysterious boutique hotel in Austin so special. Let me just say—Elon Musk has taste! 🚀 Compared to your average luxury hotel, Proper has a style all its own. Designed by the iconic American interior designer Kelly Wearstler, the Austin location blends her signature aesthetic with strong Texan influences. Think plaids, bold wall patterns, colorful textiles, and natural wood—modern yet grounded in rustic Texan charm. The entrance features a stunning wooden stepped wall decorated with striking ceramic vases, giving off primal yet exotic vibes. 🏺 And the sofas! Each one is unique—different colors and patterns, playful yet undeniably stylish. I’d made an online reservation for brunch at 9:30 AM on the second day of Lunar New Year at Peacock Mediterranean Grill 🦚—only to realize I’d actually booked for 9:30 PM! 💁♀️ Luckily, they still had seats. 😌 Peacock serves Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors. We tried tagines (slow-cooked meat and veggie stews), incredibly smooth hummus drizzled with olive oil and spices 🫒, and my personal favorite—shakshuka, this time with lamb meatballs in spicy tomato sauce and eggs 🍳🇲🇦. Honestly, Middle Eastern for breakfast felt a bit heavy—tagines might be better suited for dinner! The total came to around $130 including tax—pretty reasonable. We didn’t spot any suspicious-looking billionaires on questionable trips 😉, but both staff and guests were stylish and beautiful—a refreshing contrast to Texas’ usual rustic ranch vibe, and a sweet reminder of California. Checked room rates later—around $300–400 per night before tax, which is even cheaper than the Four Seasons Austin. Definitely considering staying here for a future anniversary! 💖 #Austin #ProperHotel #LuxuryTravel #DesignHotel #FoodieFind 🍴
