๐บ๐ธ Sacramento & Locke โ A Day of History and Mystery ๐๏ธ๐พ
Even hotter than Africa out here ๐ โฆ Luckily I brought my Tanzanian-grade sun protection before the 40ยฐC heatwave hit! ๐๏ธ California State Capitol Park: Half the park was under renovation, and the museum was closed (weekend struggle ๐). Not much to see this time. ๐ก Stanford Mansion: The former home of Stanford Universityโs founder. Beautiful gardens โ saw lots of couples taking wedding photos ๐๐ฐ. Free hourly tours only (no photos allowed inside). ๐ค๏ธ Old Sacramento State Historic Park: Most visitors come for the Railroad Museum ๐. The station exhibit has classic trains โ reminded me of the Liberty Park museum in Jersey City. The whole area has a Gold Rush-era vibe + classic American downtown charm. Parking was $3/hr โ didnโt stay too long. ๐ฐ Sutterโs Fort State Historic Park: Where the California Gold Rush began! โ๏ธ๐ Small but informative โ you can finish in an hour. A bit sad there were no staff in costume telling stories, though. ๐ฎ Locke Historic District: The last remaining rural Chinese town in the US, founded in 1915 ๐จ๐ณ. We stopped by on the way back to the Bay. Only one or two streets to explore, but full of charm and history. The town is preserved like itโs still the early 20th century โ with museums (inn, school, gambling den), but theyโre only open FriโSun. The Dai Loy Museum has old gambling tables and tools ๐ฒโฆ but the second floor is closed ๐ค (much of Lockeโs history is only available online). Walking through the partly abandoned streets felt a little eerie ๐ปโฆ some say this place is haunted! #Sacramento #LockeCA #GoldRushHistory #ChineseAmericanHistory #DayTrip #CaliforniaTravel
