๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Sacramento & Locke โ€“ A Day of History and Mystery ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

Even hotter than Africa out here ๐Ÿ˜…โ€ฆ Luckily I brought my Tanzanian-grade sun protection before the 40ยฐC heatwave hit! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ California State Capitol Park: Half the park was under renovation, and the museum was closed (weekend struggle ๐Ÿ˜‘). Not much to see this time. ๐Ÿก Stanford Mansion: The former home of Stanford Universityโ€™s founder. Beautiful gardens โ€“ saw lots of couples taking wedding photos ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ‘ฐ. Free hourly tours only (no photos allowed inside). ๐Ÿ›ค๏ธ Old Sacramento State Historic Park: Most visitors come for the Railroad Museum ๐Ÿš‚. The station exhibit has classic trains โ€“ reminded me of the Liberty Park museum in Jersey City. The whole area has a Gold Rush-era vibe + classic American downtown charm. Parking was $3/hr โ€“ didnโ€™t stay too long. ๐Ÿฐ Sutterโ€™s Fort State Historic Park: Where the California Gold Rush began! โ›๏ธ๐Ÿ’Ž Small but informative โ€“ you can finish in an hour. A bit sad there were no staff in costume telling stories, though. ๐Ÿฎ Locke Historic District: The last remaining rural Chinese town in the US, founded in 1915 ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ. We stopped by on the way back to the Bay. Only one or two streets to explore, but full of charm and history. The town is preserved like itโ€™s still the early 20th century โ€“ with museums (inn, school, gambling den), but theyโ€™re only open Friโ€“Sun. The Dai Loy Museum has old gambling tables and tools ๐ŸŽฒโ€ฆ but the second floor is closed ๐Ÿค (much of Lockeโ€™s history is only available online). Walking through the partly abandoned streets felt a little eerie ๐Ÿ‘ปโ€ฆ some say this place is haunted! #Sacramento #LockeCA #GoldRushHistory #ChineseAmericanHistory #DayTrip #CaliforniaTravel
