A total of 40,000 establishments were evaluated, given a rating out of 100, and the top 1,000 received a spot on the list. San Francisco is well represented, with a dozen restaurants, and the highest-scoring is Atelier Crenn at 95.5 . Atelier Crenn is well known for being one of San Francisco’s top restaurants, helmed by celebrity chef Dominique Crenn. In 2018, she became the only female chef in the United States to earn three Michelin Stars for Atelier Crenn. The menu is pescatarian, inspired by Crenn’s childhood in Brittany, with California influences and local ingredients. Atelier Crenn is closely followed by Benu, another three-Michelin-starred restaurant that has a stellar reputation in the city. Benu offers a fixed menu, and the meal typically lasts three hours.
