š 3-Day & 2-Night Northern Michigan Road Trip Guide
Day 1ļøā£ Itinerary: East Lansing ā Sleeping Bear Dunes ā Mackinaw City š Sleeping Bear Dunes: Thereās a $25 fee per car to enter the park. The overall experience is niceāitās a unique combination of sand dunes and lake views šļø. However, compared to other spots on this trip, while its terrain is distinctive, I didnāt find it as amazing as online reviews made it out to be š (maybe because Iāve been to Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes and lived in Florida for a long time, so Iām more used to similar landscapes?). š½ļø The Chippewa Room: We arrived pretty late, so all the restaurants weād planned to visit were already closed. We found this spot on Googleāand it was a great find! The decor has a hunting theme, which is unique and super cozy šŖ. The service was good too; we ordered Cajun Whitefish and lasagna, both deliciousāhighly recommended! šØ Mackinaw Beach & Bay Inn & Suites: The rooms are spacious and cleanāhighly recommended! We booked a lake-view room and got to see a stunning sunrise the next morning š„¹ātotally made the stay even better. Day 2ļøā£ Itinerary: Mackinaw City ā Tahquamenon Falls ā Kitch-iti-Kipi ā Pictured Rocks ā Munising š Tahquamenon Falls: The park has two sectionsāLower Falls and Upper Falls. You can drive directly to both, or hike the trail (the full hike takes about 4 hours; itās unnecessary if youāre not there for hiking). The rest area near the entrance of Lower Falls has beautiful viewsāperfect for photos šø. Upper Falls has food trucks and live music; try the Apple Cider Slush šāitās a cozy autumn treat! š Kitch-iti-Kipi: A small but incredibly beautiful spot! Itās often called āNorth Americaās Jiuzhaigouā š§. The water is crystal clear, and the lush green surroundings make it feel like a hidden paradise. š Pictured Rocks: No need for long explanationsāI loved this place so much! The only regret was not booking the Sunset Cruise š¢ (definitely reserve it in advance if you go!). š½ļø Dining in Munising: Munising is a tiny town, so there arenāt many dining options. We got takeout from Tobyās Dog House, a fast-food spot. There was a long line in the evening, but the food was just averageāits plus points are affordability, a wide menu selection, and late hours (great for tired travelers). šØ Pictured Rocks Inn & Suites: Not recommendedāthe experience didnāt live up to expectations, so weād suggest looking for other accommodation options in Munising. Day 3ļøā£ Itinerary: Munising ā St. Ignace ā š¢ Mackinac Island ā SkyBridge ā East Lansing Mackinac Island was such a highlightāabsolutely loved every minute of it! š„° (For more details on Mackinac Island, check out my dedicated guidesāthereās so much to say about this car-free gem!) FYI (Useful Tips!) The distance between attractions in Northern Michigan is quite far, so driversāmentally prepare for long stretches of driving š. Some road sections have no cell service, so download offline maps in advanceāitāll save you a lot of trouble! #StudyAbroad #StudyInUSA #SelfDrivingTrip #NorthernMichigan #AutumnFoliageInNorthernMichigan #TravelDiary #Michigan
