A Century-Old Swedish Restaurant Recommendation
🎄 On Christmas Eve in Stockholm, Sweden, I asked a Swedish friend for restaurant recommendations. She highly recommended Kvarnen, her favorite place. I had to give it a try, so I booked a table for Christmas Eve. However, all slots from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. were fully booked. We ended up going at 4:30 p.m., as it gets dark early in the Nordic countries during winter. 😂 🍽️ Must-Try Dishes: Swedish Meatballs (Kvarnens Meatballs) - 250 SEK ⭐️The meatballs are firm and juicy, served with a rich cream sauce, lingonberry jam, and pickles. The classic sweet and savory combination is delightful with every bite. Reindeer Stew - 310 SEK ⭐️The reindeer meat is tender and flavorful, cooked with cream, wild mushrooms, and lingonberry jam. The dish has a rich, layered flavor. I found it a bit undercooked, but reindeer can be tough if overcooked. Herring Plate (SOS) - 195 SEK ⭐️A collection of various pickled herring, each with authentic flavors. Served with buttered potatoes and cheese, it's a perfect appetizer with a balanced tangy and salty taste. Pumpkin Soup with Sour Cream - 145 SEK ⭐️This creamy and smooth pumpkin soup has a light tang from the sour cream, making it a rich and comforting dish. Highly recommended to warm you up. 🍴 Restaurant Atmosphere: Kvarnen has been a landmark restaurant in Stockholm since it opened in 1908. 💡The retro decor and warm lighting create a nostalgic ambiance. On Christmas Eve, the ⭐️Christmas atmosphere was very cozy, with families and groups of friends dining together.🎄 👍🏻 Tips: Address: Tjärhovsgatan 4, Stockholm Average Cost: Approximately 300-400 SEK (plus a tip of 5%/10%/15% at the end) Reservations: Highly recommended, especially during the holiday season.🎄 #SwedishCuisine #StockholmRestaurants #NordicTravel #TraditionalSwedishDishes #CentennialRestaurant #SwedishChristmas #Kvarnen #FoodieSpot #SwedishChristmas #SwedishMeatballs
