A City Walk in Philadelphia: Eastern State Penitentiary ๐๐
Starting from Independence Hall โ passing by the Liberty Bell โ heading to Reading Terminal Market for some local bites โ Philadelphia City Hall (I originally wanted to go to the top to see the Penn statue and get a panoramic view of the city, but all the tickets were booked up ๐ข) โ LoVe sculpture (right across from City Hall, I had no idea what it was until I checked later ๐ค) โ Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul โ Logan Fountain โฒ๏ธ โ Franklin Institute (Admission: 25)โEasternStatePenitentiaryHistoricSite(Admission:23) โ a quick stop by the University of Pennsylvania & Drexel University (two of Philadelphia's Big Three universities, with Temple University being the third one ๐). To get to dinner, I took the subway. Today's walk totaled 14.12 kilometers and 22,699 steps! ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐จ Eastern State Penitentiary, an American prison located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is now a historical site open to the public. Built in 1829, its architecture resembles a Gothic castle. When it first opened, it was the largest and most expensive public building of its time, serving as a model for over 300 prisons worldwide. On October 15, 1966, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The prison closed in 1971 and was later renovated and reopened as a tourist attraction in 1994. Fun fact shown in Pic 1๏ธโฃ8๏ธโฃ: The crime rate among elderly Americans and women has been on the rise ๐๐ต๐ฉ. #MySlowRetirementLife #Philadelphia #EasternStatePenitentiary ๐๏ธ๐
