A Free Visit to a Magnificent Mansion & Stunning Art Collection! 🏛️🎨
This was my first visit to Kenwood House in years—and I’d completely forgotten how breathtaking some of the rooms are, especially the library with its exquisite blue-and-white ceiling and delicate detailing. 📚💙✨ It was wonderful to be reminded of the story of Lord Mansfield and his pivotal role in ending the slave trade—and yes, it’s believed Jane Austen named Mansfield Park after him! 📖🧑⚖️❤️ The art collection here is truly world-class—yet intimate enough to enjoy in a single, relaxed visit. I could have stood all day in front of Rembrandt’s self-portrait—so moving and masterful. The works by Gainsborough and Reynolds radiate energy and elegance, and a wonderfully kind volunteer took the time to walk me through Joseph Wright’s paintings in depth. 🖼️👨🎨 There’s a magnificent Turner seascape bursting with stormy drama, and a small but mighty Constable study of Hampstead Heath that stopped me in my tracks—an impressionistic little gem! 🌊🌳 And it’s all free! What’s not to love?! 🥳💫 Before my visit, I enjoyed a delicious lunch at the café ☕🍰, then wandered across the heath to Parliament Hill for those classic London views. 🌄🏙️ #KenwoodHouse #FreeArt #LondonGem #HampsteadHeath #WorldClassCollection
