A Fusion of Traditional and Contemporary Creative Dishes

Eating in Berlin Hey everyone! Due to the deep-rooted popularity of pickles and sauces, when we crave Korean cuisine, we often think of red and spicy foods. I always crave grilled pork belly and spicy tofu soup, and I rarely eat Korean fusion dishes (I plead guilty, and I rarely eat dishes other than pork belly and tofu soup 🤐). As the new year begins, everything is renewed! I timidly walked into CHOI, and it was surprisingly delicious! It's the kind of fusion cuisine you'd want to eat regularly, and I recommend you all give it a try! 🎐 Ambience Pushing through the curtain from an unassuming alley, you'll find 12 seats arranged around a solid wood bar table, with two additional couples' tables by the window. Korean traditional clothing serves as lamp shades, and ancient Korean poetry books as menus. The intimate yet relaxed space is small but cozy. 🍢 Food The seasonal menu is served in the form of a set menu (Course Menu), sometimes with eight dishes, but this time we had six. The three six-course menus are: Sinseon (Vegetarian), Seonbi (Fish), and Sura (Meat). We ordered the latter two. CHOI's dishes focus on fresh and refreshing seasonal ingredients. We enjoyed dishes like Iberian pork belly with kimchi and egg yolk risotto, clams with fruit caviar, beef brisket wrapped in Korean rice cakes with zucchini, and finished with soft and dense black sesame cream puffs. 🐟 Fish · Six Courses Kimchi Egg Yolk Scallop Risotto as an appetizer Grilled Octopus and Broccoli with Spicy Shrimp Meat Sauce Clams with Fruit Caviar and Chili Oil Sauce Braised Sea Bass with Soy Sauce, Radish, and Onion (main course) Soy Sauce Salmon, Wild Tiger Prawn, and Their Friends Black Sesame Cream Puff 🥩 Meat · Six Courses Kimchi Egg Yolk Iberian Pork Belly Risotto Grilled Corn Chicken Leg Meat with Schisandra Sauce Beef Brisket Wrapped in Korean Rice Cakes and Zucchini Dry-fried Beef Brisket with Chili Cream and Mountain Pepper Sauce Same as Above Same as Above Each dish is like a work of art, served in ceramic tableware designed by contemporary Korean artists. CHOI has achieved a delicate balance by respecting the traditional elements of Korean cuisine while elevating these dishes in a contemporary and innovative way. In addition to the set menus, there are several daily single dishes available, offering common Korean appetizers. 🍷 Beverages The wine list is perfectly matched with the food, small but exquisite, mostly consisting of wines from family-run vineyards in Germany, New Zealand, and Argentina.
