A Glimpse of the Old South: 3-Day Savannah Guide

A Glimpse of the Old South: 3-Day Savannah Guide 🌿 This riverside town, a 4-hour drive from Atlanta (ATL), is perfect for a weekend getaway—slow-paced and incredibly relaxing~ The entire city is steeped in British Victorian charm, with small urban squares and grid-like street layouts that feel like a trip to Manchester🇬🇧. SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) buildings are scattered throughout the city, blending seamlessly with the historic districts. Positioned as an artsy town filled with galleries, antique shops, theaters, and film festivals, living here must be such a delight~ The city is small and ideal for walking🚶♀️. We joined a Historical Walking Tour, led by a grandfatherly guide who shared old stories and history as we strolled—so immersive! Fun Fact: The small balconies on Victorian-style buildings have no doors; you have to climb through windows. Rumor has it it’s mainly to save on taxes😹, isn’t that interesting! I recommend wandering the old town a lot~ We also hit the farmers’ market at Forsyth Park on Saturday, where the city buzzed with lively energy✨. Next to the park is the Victorian District—architecture lovers can book a special architecture tour for a deeper dive! Further south, the Starland neighborhood is more bohemian, a local hotspot with vintage stores and pop-up events. We also checked out the beach, but Georgia’s coast… honestly not recommended❌! 🏨 Accommodation: East Bay Inn A historic building hotel built in 1852. The restaurant downstairs, though damp and cool), pairs surprisingly well with the red brick walls, creating a unique retro vibe… Great for photos📸! When it comes to food, I personally think Charleston edges it out, but Savannah has some gems too. Highly recommend these👇: 🌟 Late Air (Modern American) Mostly frequented by local young people, the chef is half-Korean, infusing lots of Asian flavors into the dishes—my favorite meal by far👍! 🌟 Grey Restaurant Stunning Art Deco style, and the chef is a born-and-bred New Yorker~ The restaurant is renovated from a former Greyhound bus station, so unique! We had brunch here, a refined take on Southern cuisine—so impressive✨. 🌟 Collin Quarter Another great spot for brunch, a cute corner shop with lovely outdoor seating~ The menu is diverse, from classic Southern dishes to Shakshuka to full English breakfast—choice overload might kick in😉. 🌟 1540 Fine Dining but surprisingly affordable, focusing on North African Moroccan-inspired cuisine. Their homemade pita is amazing, but the standout is their Wine Selection—wine lovers, don’t miss it~ 🌟 Leopold's (century-old ice cream parlor) Feels like a spot grandparents might’ve dated at, with a Jukebox adding to the nostalgia🎵! The seasonal lavender ice cream is so refreshing—a must-try~ On the flip side, Common Threat, which gets lots of hype, was just okay for me… You can tell the chef is trying to innovate, but many combinations feel off, and all dishes are drowned in sauce, making them heavy and underwhelming😐. #RecorderOfRomanticLife#Savannah#savannah
