A Great Original Property on Waikīkī Beach - Worth a Visit! 🏄
We stayed at The Surfrider from February 1st to 6th, 2025. I truly loved the old-world charm of this place. Wherever I looked, it breathed history. We stayed in the wing on the north side of the courtyard—not the newer high-rise tower, but the one right by the pool. From there, we had a lovely view of the courtyard and a magnificent banyan tree, which is over 120 years old! 🌳 We could also see the beach and the ocean, and every morning we watched all the surf students "learning" outside, hehe. 🏄♀️ The staff were friendly, proactive, and very helpful whenever I had questions. The bar was okay. It's a hotel bar, so nothing extraordinary, but it did have a nice view of the beach and the ocean. There was live music almost every night (maybe even every night; we missed a night or two due to other plans). The prices were typical for a hotel bar. And I fell in love with the banyan tree all over again! The room (659) was fine. The carpet was a bit dated but clean, and I liked its pattern. The bathroom was small, but I believe this is one of the original towers, so your mileage may vary. We intentionally avoided the "lanai" rooms because the hotel website clearly mentioned they were under renovation. I'm not sure why others were so upset—the website was transparent about it. My only real complaint about the room was the lack of sufficient power outlets. There was one behind the bed and a power strip on one side, but nothing on the other side. I had to improvise to charge my phone at night. 🔌 A significant downside for me was the valet parking cost—$65 per night!! That's practically highway robbery. 🚗💸 #TheSurfrider #Waikiki #HistoricHotel #BanyanTree #OceanView #LiveMusic #ValetParking #TravelTips #Honolulu #HotelReview
