A Guide to Northeastern Chinese Cuisine in Birmingham 🥢

Craving hearty, flavourful Northeastern Chinese food? Here are three top spots in Birmingham you shouldn’t miss: 1️⃣ Northeast Home Iron Pot Stew 📍 B5 6RG | Located inside Han Dynasty Food Hall 🍲 Their iron pot stews are huge and perfect for sharing! We tried the Chicken & Pork Intestine Stew (for two) which came with rice and cornbread. The vermicelli noodles soaked up all the flavours, and the wood ear mushrooms and tofu skin were delicious too. 💰 ££ | 🥡 Great for groups 2️⃣ Jin Man Lou 📍 B5 6NE | Now open where Fan Mi Li used to be 🍖 We had the Braised Pork Belly with Green Beans Iron Pot — the beans were tender, the pork was rich but not greasy, and it paired perfectly with fluffy fermented pancakes. You can choose your spice level — even mild is full of flavour! They also serve other classic Northeastern dishes (more in my takeaway guide soon 👀). 💰 ££ | 🌶️ Customisable spice 3️⃣ Da Nian Chu Yi 📍 B5 6AB ✨ Went back after a while and everything was perfect! Highlights: Shredded Pork with Pickled Cabbage & Vermicelli — sour, savoury, chewy 👍 Guo Bao Rou (Sweet & Sour Pork) — consistently good Spicy Chicken — not traditional Northeastern, but super tasty! Portions are generous — enough for leftovers! 🍱 💰 ££ | ✅ Reliable & flavourful Perfect for when you’re missing home flavours or just want something warm and satisfying 🍚❤️ #BirminghamFood #NortheasternCuisine #ChineseFood #UKStudentEats #ComfortFood 🇬🇧🥘
