A Japanese hand roll fast food restaurant

📍 1701 Douglas St #6, Victoria, BC V8W 0C1 A Japanese hand roll fast-casual spot in Hudson Public Market, Victoria Downtown—it shares a small space with a few other shops, so it looks a bit simple 😊. All seats in the market are first-come, first-served, which is handy. The owner wears many hats: server, cashier, and chef! From the signs, it seems he’s from a family of chefs—such a lively Japanese guy, dashing between the order counter and the workstation, and bowing nonstop when he talks. Luckily, he only opens Wednesday to Sunday, 11:30 AM to 2 PM—if he had longer hours, he’d definitely burn out! 🤣 Business is clearly good—twice I went at 1 PM and they were almost sold out. I finally got lucky when I popped by at 12 PM. They only serve simple rolls and sushi; the boxes don’t look huge, but those little rice balls fill you up surprisingly well 😋. ✅ Assorted Oshi 💰12.5 I only realized when I got it—"Oshi" is seared sushi! The box has three types: shrimp, salmon, and tuna, all sliced super thin. The rice balls are well-seasoned—the sushi vinegar ratio is spot-on, and the rice isn’t packed too tight. It has a faint sweet kick, and even though I’m not big on carbs, I polished off all six rice balls! 😄 The sashimi on top is slathered with something like salad dressing, then torched till it looks a bit charred—so the fish is halfway between raw and cooked. I was worried it might taste burnt, but it’s still sweet and fresh, and the sauce is light and zesty—definitely fresh fish 👍. Honestly, the three types taste pretty similar since the sauce is bold. If I had to pick a favorite, it’s the salmon—it’s silky and melts in your mouth, while the shrimp and tuna just can’t compare 😊. The price isn’t bad, but the value feels so-so—the sashimi is really thin. Still, it works fine as a quick workday lunch 🤔. #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #VancouverDayTrip #Victoria #Foodie #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife #WhatInternationalStudentsEat #RestaurantRecommendation #HiddenGemRestaurant
