A westernized Japanese restaurant
đ 1467 Hampshire Rd, Oak Bay, BC V8R 1G4 This is a Westernized Japanese restaurant in Oak Bay, near Victoria. The place isnât big, but itâs always busyâalmost all the customers are white people! A Canadian classmate of mine raved about it, and with good Google Reviews, I decided to go for a group dinner with my team. As soon as we sat down and I saw the menu prices, I get why my white classmate loved itâso cheap! But hereâs the catch: thereâs an Indian guy in our group, and the whole meal had me so awkward I could barely enjoy the food (toe-curling levels đ ). Luckily, I didnât like the place much anywayâmost ingredients tasted frozen, so I wonât be back. Silver lining: at least Iâve crossed it off my list, and it didnât ruin other restaurants for me! đ Lunch - Sashimi Bento A đ°17.5 A sashimi bento with 3 slices of sashimi (2 salmon, 1 tuna) and 2 nigiri (1 salmon, 1 tuna). All the raw fish tasted frozenâbadly thawed, too, since the meat was crumbly and bland. There were also 5 Dynamite Rolls: crab stick bits mixed with mayo, a whole uncut crab stick, avocado, pickled daikon, cucumber, rice, and seaweed. The rice was hard, nothing special. The side was seaweed saladâtasted exactly like the one from Costco. The miso soup was okay, thoughâprobably loaded with seasoning packets, but hot soup is hard to mess up. All in all, itâs cheap and fillingâfor the price, you canât ask for more. đ â Toro Sashimi đ°19 8 slices for just $19âwhat was I even expecting? It had nothing to do with real toro: not fatty, not creamy, just crumbly like the bento sashimi. Definitely frozen and thawed. The only âproâ besides the price? It wasnât fishy. 𼴠After the meal, the server gave each of us a lollipopâsour and sweet, actually pretty good! đ #Canada #CanadaFood #VancouverIsland #Victoria #Foodie #LifeSnippets #FoodTour #MyDailyLife
