🐨 A Lucky Day on Magnetic Island – Spotted 3 Wild Koalas! 🌿📸
Day 6 in Magnetic Island – a must-visit when you’re in Townsville! 🏝️ Getting There: Two ferry options: Sealink: Closer to the city center (opposite the Greyhound bus stop) Magnetic Island Ferries: Allows bringing cars 🚗 I chose Ferries – round trip online ticket: $36 💻💰 ⏰ Departed at 8 AM, returned at 4 PM | ⛴️ Ride: 35-40 mins 🚌 Island Transport: Rent a car or take the bus! I arrived at 8:40 AM and caught the 9:20 AM bus 🚍 $1 day pass – amazing deal! Buses run hourly – plan your return to match the ferry! 🗺️ My Itinerary: 1️⃣ Took Bus 250 to The Forts → did the Forts Walk to spot wild koalas 🐨 2️⃣ Hiked to Florence Bay 3️⃣ Continued to Horseshoe Bay (beach + restaurants 🏖️🍴) 4️⃣ Refueled with some food 🥪 5️⃣ Took the bus back to the port → walked to Ferry Rock Wallabies to see rock wallabies 🦘 💡 Tip: If you prefer less hiking, just do the Forts Walk for koalas and then bus to Horseshoe Bay. The full hike has LOTS of stairs and took me over 3 hours – bring snacks! There’s an IGA near the port for supplies 🍫🚶♀️ 🦘 Rock Wallabies Experience: After returning to the port, I had some time before boarding → went to see the wallabies! 📍 Note: Google Maps isn’t accurate – don’t go through Mercure apartments. Instead, take the small path on the LEFT side of the distance sign near the port. At first, I thought there were none… but after waiting, one popped out from the rocks – then more appeared! 🪨🤩 A friendly local auntie told me there’s another rock area across with even more wallabies – you can feed them (if you bring food) and get closer for photos! I was too tired to go, but highly recommend it! #Townsville #MagneticIsland #KoalaSpotting #IslandAdventure #TravelAustralia #WildlifeEncounters
