It’s just a 5-minute walk from the ancient city, and the key point is that there’s a parking lot right across from the restaurant. Parking is free if you dine or make a reservation at the restaurant! (Sometimes there’s a parking attendant, and it’s unclear if they’re legit, but giving them a euro or two usually does the trick.) Compared to the 20 euros for parking nearby Pompeii, this is a steal 🤩. The parking in Pompeii is just too expensive 😭. Now, back to the point, the highlight of Caupona is its ancient Roman theme experience. The interior decoration of the restaurant is like a trip back two thousand years 🏺, and the staff are dressed as if they’re straight out of the Roman Senate in history books. Even the menus are made of wood, adding to the sense of ceremony! Here, you can request to dress in Roman attire and taste fine wines in ancient vessels, maximizing the experience! We ordered the following dishes, each one impressive: Crab Paccheri: The noodles are soaked in crab flavor, simply amazing! Mushroom Lamb Knuckle: A bit salty, but the texture is still delicate, and the combination with basil and tomato is a match made in heaven. Chopped Basil Tomato Salad & Regular Salad: Refreshing and perfect for cutting through the richness of the other dishes. Taurasi Wine: We opted for the so-called Southern Barolo, Taurasi, which was dry, fruity, and complex with layers of spice, perfectly enhancing the overall dining experience. At Caupona, you don’t just taste the food; it’s like participating in a play set in ancient Rome. Both the dining environment and the dishes are worth a visit!
