A one-week solo travel guide for girls in Sri Lanka
A week exploring Sri Lanka's northern route: Colombo β Trincomalee β Dambulla β Colombo Transportation π΄: 1οΈβ£ From Colombo Airport to the city center: Take a tuk-tuk from the airport to the location in Picture 8, then take an air-conditioned bus to the city for 1,200 LKR (a bit expensive; check the return trip for a better deal). 2οΈβ£ Colombo to Trincomalee: Buy a first-class train ticket on the official website. The seats can be adjusted to a reclining position. The train runs from 21:30 to 5:30 β just sleep through the journey. It costs about 60-70 RMB, which is totally worth it. 3οΈβ£ Trincomalee to Dambulla: By bus, 400 LKR, takes about 3-4 hours. 4οΈβ£ Dambulla to Colombo: By bus, 550 LKR, takes over 4 hours. 5οΈβ£ Colombo to the airport: Make sure to note this down. Use Google Maps to navigate to Colombo Bus Station. It only costs 400 LKR (about 10 RMB) to get near the airport, then walk 20 minutes to reach the airport.π 6οΈβ£ Remember to download PickMe before coming β tuk-tuks are convenient and it helps avoid being overcharged!π Colombo π€οΈ: 1οΈβ£ Coastal train:ππ Try not to buy tickets during rush hours. I took the train around 4 pm, which was very empty. The route is from Fort Railway Station to Mount Lavinia, a one-way trip costs only 1 RMB and takes 20 minutes.π 2οΈβ£ Spa Ceylon: A national treasure-level spa. It's best to make a reservation by phone in advance because full-body oil massages are almost fully booked every day. I walked in without a reservation, so I only got a foot massage, but they also included a neck, shoulder, and head massage βπΆπΆ it was so comfortable. Definitely give it a try. There are many stores in the city and the airport; buy more to take back as there are few for it.π§π§ 3οΈβ£ Red Mosque: Good for a quick visit, taking photos, and strolling around. They'll give you a loose robe to wear inside, which can get very hot.ππ ποΈ Trincomalee: 1οΈβ£ Diving: I walked into a diving shop near my homestay. The instructor spoke full English. Two scuba dives cost 120 USD, including pool review of OW knowledge, going out to sea, and GoPro photography. π The local instructor was quite responsible. There were mostly white people on the boat, and the atmosphere was good.ππ They even provided snacks and water. Everything was great except the photos taken weren't good. But overall, it's highly recommended.ππΌ 2οΈβ£ Shiva Temple and feeding deer by the sea: Both are great for taking photos. Bargain with tuk-tuk drivers if you can; using PickMe is best, but sometimes hailing one on the street might be cheaper. It's recommended to buy bananas in advance.πΆπΆ ποΈ Dambulla: 1οΈβ£ Minneriya National Park: Most people come here for this. We were lucky to see many elephant herds, and a lone elephant was very close by. A private car for 2 people plus tickets cost 27,000 LKR, which is quite cost-effective. ππ π₯π₯The tuk-tuk drivers might offer free visits to gem museums and herbal gardens β it's not to go, as they're all about selling things and promoting products, which isn't necessary. 2οΈβ£ City area: Sri Lanka is a bit of a food desert, but I must recommend this roast chicken place in Dambulla! It's close to the bus station. π΄ A half chicken, freshly roasted, costs just over 1,000 LKR β enjoy it with durian, it's delicious!ποΈποΈ #OffTheBeatenPath #SriLanka
