A Perfectly Comfortable Michelin-Starred Meal in London: Mountain

My nephew just graduated from high school 🎓, so he treated us to a celebration dinner—and what a delightful surprise! The food was relaxed yet refined, and even more affordable than expected. I’d go back just for the Short Rib and Spider Crab Omelette! 🦪 Oyster with Gooseberries Summer vibes call for oysters! These were briny and fresh, with gooseberries adding a tangy, fruity brightness—like turning up the flavor dial. Compared to the simple, rustic £1 oysters I had recently, this was elegantly balanced with layers of taste. 🐟 Raw Scallop & Cured Monkfish Paper-thin scallops layered on the plate, paired with chewy, salty-sweet monkfish. The dish was light and clean (despite the olive oil drizzle)—not mind-blowing, but perfect for slow, thoughtful bites. 🦀 Spider Crab Omelette The omelette was cloud-soft—almost like a Japanese tamagoyaki—with generous chunks of warm crab inside. The seasoning was restrained (no heavy creaminess, thank goodness), letting the natural sweetness of the crab shine. Cutting into it was a happy surprise—so much crab! 🐠 Dover Sole Served whole, with a lightly charred skin from the grill. The fish itself was firm yet tender, seasoned simply with olive oil and salt—pure freshness. Only downside? A touch too salty for my taste. 🥩 Beef Short Rib Slow-cooked over charcoal, with a perfect pink center and crispy, caramelized edges. Each bite was buttery-rich with a slight chew, and the crunch of salt made it heavenly. I may or may not have hoarded the crispy bits… 🥦 Roasted Spring Vegetables Ordered as a side, but way more impressive than expected! The broad beans were a standout—lightly charred outside, tender inside. 🍞 Bread & Butter The sourdough would’ve been next-level if served warm (imagine crispy crust + soft, steamy inside). Ours was room temp, so the crust was a bit tough. The butter, though? Perfectly softened—easy to spread bliss. Portion Tip: Order 1 main + 2 small plates per 2 people, plus bread and wine. Our 4-person meal was around £230. Every dish had a light, balanced touch—restrained but intentional. The Short Rib and Crab Omelette were masterclasses in humble luxury. Very… Michelin 🤷‍♀️ (they earned their star last year!). 🥂 Mountain Beak Street 📍 16-18 Beak St, London W1F 9RD #LondonLife #LondonFood #MichelinLondon #LondonRestaurants
