A Super Delicious and Affordable Seafood Bistro🦀

I visited Penzance for two and a half days and dined at this affordable seafood bistro twice. Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar🤤 📍 TR18 5PZ Personal Rating: 8/10 👍 The seafood is very fresh and reasonably priced. The simple seasoning is quite appealing—light, not greasy, and refreshing.🦐 👎 The portions are small, making them perfect as tapas to enjoy with a drink. You might need to queue during peak season. The seasoning is rustic and not particularly outstanding.🌊 💰 The average cost per person for dine-in is over £30, excluding drinks. The menu changes daily based on seasonal ingredients and the day’s catch. I came back twice in two and a half days. There are different menus for dine-in and takeout, with takeout being cheaper and without a service charge. Dine-In: 🌟Scallops £10.95 The scallops were surprisingly not greasy, with no buttery aroma, highlighting their natural flavor. They were thick, juicy, and very tender. Paired with chorizo cubes, the lack of oil meant the flavors didn’t fully integrate. A touch of dukkah spice added a subtle aroma.🦐 🌟Crab Nachos £12.5 A perfect appetizer for drinks, with a Mexican twist. 🌊The generous portion of cold crab meat was paired with tortilla chips, featuring tangy and slightly spicy Mexican peppers, sweet and sour red cabbage, and oil-packed cherry tomatoes, all topped with creamy guacamole. A squeeze of lime enhances the freshness. 🌟Mussels £9 The seasonal mussels from Cornwall were incredibly fresh, stewed just right to be soft and succulent. The sauce, made from cider and cream, was perfectly balanced—creamy but not heavy, with a hint of saltiness and a touch of sweetness, making it very refreshing without any creaminess. The bread was a bit dry and powdery. 🌟Lobster Fries £16.5 Lobster meat was scattered over fries. While there wasn’t a strong lobster aroma, it wasn’t unpleasant. Paired with cheese sauce, bacon bits, and tangy pickled onions.🌊 🌟Takeout: Crab Mayo Sandwich £11.5 The crab salad was simply made with mayonnaise, rustic and unpretentious. 🤤The cold crab meat had a subtle aroma but a fresh, sweet aftertaste and a chewy texture. The sesame bread was slightly dry but had a nice crunch. Served with vegetables and pickles. 🦐 🌟Grilled Hake £11.5 The hake was fresh and delicious, thick and juicy with a crispy skin. The texture was tender and slightly flaky. Even after being packed and left for a while, it still retained its juices. The fish had a strong but gentle aroma, not fishy at all. The tartar sauce was mixed with plenty of capers, making it light and refreshing without being heavy. The accompanying fries also retained their crispness well.🤤 🌟Monkfish Burger £11 The fish burger had a generous amount of fish. The monkfish was breaded and fried to a crisp. It was slightly salty, soft yet chewy, and full of juice. A touch of nori mayo added flavor. The brioche bun was soft and chewy as expected. After the meal, I visited the neighboring JELBERT'S Ice Cream Shop for a 🍦. The Cornish ice cream was rich and creamy. You can add clotted cream for an extra burst of flavor without making it overly sweet. #CornwallFood #Cornwall #UKLife #UKTravel #UKTourism #SeafoodLover #Penzance #PenzanceFood
