A Surprise at the End of the Stroll (Newport, Rhode Island) 🌊
When it comes to Newport, Rhode Island, the most famous spot is undoubtedly Cliff Walk—hailed as one of the most scenic trails in the world. Stretching 5.6 kilometers, the full hike takes roughly 4 hours to complete. On one side of the trail lies the vast ocean, and on the other, stand numerous grand 19th-century mansions (nearly 200 years old!). It’s easy to see why this place was once known as a “city of wealth” 🏰. 📸 : Our starting point—Forty Steps (literally translated as “Forty Long Steps”).These stone steps were built in 1830 and have stood for nearly 200 years. Walk down the steps, and you’ll reach the sea directly; climb back up, and every morning you’ll be greeted by Uncle Danny’s folk songs. His beautiful voice floats in the sunlight and sea breeze—no matter the weather, hearing his singing feels so cozy and relaxing, making you want to laze around in the warmth ☀️🎶. 📸 : The surprise we found at the end of the walk! From a distance, we thought the retro yellow wall was painted artificially—but up close, we realized it was actually yellow moss that had grown on the wall over time due to constant dampness. That’s why you must walk all the way to the end—until you feel the wind blowing from the sealed cave entrance at the trail’s end 🍃. 🅿️ Parking Tip: You can also park for free at Salve Regina University (right next to Forty Steps), but we’re not sure if this is only available on weekends. Drive over to check first—if it doesn’t work, you can head back to the parking area near Forty Steps. There are restrooms available at the Forty Steps spot, too! #USATravel #RhodeIsland #OffTheBeatenPath
