A Swiss Homestay & Grandma Landlord Worth

Location: Burgdorf, Bern, Switzerland. (Grandma’s place is a 3-stop bus ride to Burgdorf Station 🚌, then a 9-minute train to Bern 🚂—all destinations are accessible via Bern as a transfer hub!) Pre-booking costs around 600 per night (~300 per person)—unbelievable for Switzerland！💰 The check-out policy is super flexible: free cancellation up to the day before arrival. (Grandma’s rental style is super laid-back—we’ll get to why she rents later.) Following the Airbnb address to the house’s courtyard, I was instantly stunned 😲 (Grandma had mentioned she’d be out during the day). Curious and excited, I looked around. The small decorations in the yard—pinecones, a bright and tidy house, fresh flowers on the table, aquatic plants and fish swimming freely in the fish tank, carefully selected wall art (later, Grandma shared she changes the art seasonally to harmonize colors 🎨), warm floor lamps in the corners, a colorful sofa in the living room, and a spiral wooden staircase. I rushed up to the second-floor room: a vase of preserved flowers on the desk, a heart-shaped chocolate on the pillow 💝, ambient floor lamps and emergency nightlights by the bed, a rooftop garden visible through the window, a coffee machine, a first-aid kit, a full set of tableware, travel adapters, a stack of clean towels in the bathroom, fragrant fruit-scented bath products, and hand-decorated bath salts… I couldn’t help but think: What a person who loves life this grandma is, to make her home so warm and delightful… In the evening, I heard the front door open downstairs—Grandma had returned. Her dog Zora dashed upstairs, nuzzling and rolling at my feet, begging for pets 🐶. In that moment, it felt like coming home to a long-lost family, welcomed with such warmth and anticipation. Anja came up too, beaming. I couldn’t help but hug her, sharing my love for the house. She was thrilled, and we chatted like old friends—no awkwardness, just pure joy, contentment, and gratitude filling my heart. 🤗 The snow-capped mountains and lakes of Switzerland are beautiful, but what’s truly unforgettable is the warmth of human life in this homestay.
