๐Ÿก A Tiny Hidden Gem, Once Home to a Great Poet ๐Ÿ“š

Catching the London Open House Festival, I visited the former residence of John Keats: โžก๏ธKeats House Located near the vast North London park, Hampstead Heath. John Keats, a prominent English Romantic poet of the early 19th century, is renowned alongside Byron and Shelley. This quaint Georgian-style building sits nestled in a verdant garden, tranquil and steeped in poetic essence. Two hundred years ago, the young poet, plagued by illness and controversy, spent the most productive years of his creative life here. Many well-known poems, including "Ode to a Nightingale" and "Ode on a Grecian Urn," were conceived within these walls. He fell in love with his neighbor, Fanny Brawne, and their love story also inspired his creative muse. Tragically, Keats died of tuberculosis at the age of 25 in Rome. His former residence in London was later inhabited by many others. At the beginning of the last century, it was nearly demolished. Thanks to the efforts of Keats' literary enthusiasts, in 1925, it was transformed into a memorial museum, displaying Keats' manuscripts, letters, and personal items, with detailed introductions. It's quite moving to visit. Visiting on the weekend to trace the life trajectory of this Romantic poet, feels quite meaningful. ๐Ÿ“ŒIt's conveniently located, a five to ten-minute walk from Hampstead Heath Overground station. #HistoricalArchitecture #UK #Literature #Poet #OffTheBeatenPath #HiddenGems #WeekendGetaways #LondonLife
